Sigh.

So between the Zac Efron and Miley posts this week, I realize my blog’s been a little tween-heavy recently. Don’t worry, I feel embarrassed all on my own. And yet, not embarrassed enough to refrain from sharing one more tween-centric clip. Because I’m shameless like that and I have an unbelievably high tolerance for upbeat pop jams.

Justin Bieber and a couple of famous disney friends (including gf Selena Gomez) recently made a video of themselves dancing around to Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen’s single “Call Me Maybe.” Apparently, Carly Rae is signed to Bieber’s manager’s record label (say that 5 times in a row), which explains Bieber showing love for the track. Of course, this being the Biebz, everything he appears in becomes Youtube gold within hours, and the video’s already picked up over 6 million views! That’s more views than the original video for the song got! Still, I’m pretty sure Carly Rae Jepsen isn’t complaining. Whatever gets the single heard right? That’s how I came across the song after all, and I’ll admit: I kinda love it (as is evidenced by the high Itunes play count on my computer)! It’s just a really fun, catchy, happy track! Perfect for blasting in your car and dancing around to (the best way to judge a pop song). Seriously, if you don’t get the slightest positive feelings from listening to this song, then there is a chance you don’t have a soul…

Ok, so maybe it wasn’t a crush per se that I had on Elijah, seeing as I was too young to fully fathom those types of feelings yet (ahhhh the days of innocence) but there was definitely a degree of admiration and awe that I felt towards him. Even as a child, I knew this kid was talented, and there was something so endearing about him: his characters were always a little scrappy, a little mouthy, but always full of heart. I always preferred him to Macaulay Culkin…one hundred percent…I said it…

Sadly as Elijah grew up I started to see less and less of him in movies…he kinda disappeared and then starred in this little-known, underfunded indie trilogy called the Lord of the Rings? I don’t know, curse of the child actor I suppose. Sad.

To be honest, I don’t know what I feel about this. Do I even care? I don’t think I do. I’m pretty sure I stopped caring around the time she starred in that pregnancy movie that aired on ABC Family three years ago (remember Labor Pains? Yeah.)

I guess this news makes sense, seeing as Lorne Michaels (SNL’s Executive Producer) did serve as producer of Mean Girls way back when, so I’m assuming he is doing his former star a favor. From a strategic standpoint, it makes a lot of sense since it brings both SNL and Lindsay a lot of publicity. This is a really huge win for Lindsay. Most people go on SNL to promote a project, but Lindsay’s going on to promote herself, and what better way to show the world (and the industry) she’s still got some acting chops left in her, right?

The best thing that could come from all of this, is that she displays a sense of self-awareness, and pokes fun of her recent troubles. I think that would be the best way for her to disassociate her current self from the Lindsay Lohan that exists in tabloids. I hope for her sake, she’s willing to go there, you know? Because who knows? With the news that she’s also just signed on to star in an Elizabeth Taylor biopic (albeit a Lifetime version) she MAY just be poised for a…comeback?

So, Taylor Swift and Zac Efron were on The Ellen Show recently, promoting their new animated movie, The Lorax and Ellen being Ellen grilled the two on if they were a couple. While both denied they are romantically involved, it’s clear they ARE friends and that makes me jealous.

I love the Zefron! YEAH! I SAID IT! NO SHAME HERE! Just look at him. He’s so pretty, with the tousled hair and leather jacket. And now Taylor gets to add him to her long list of bffs. Because writing award-winning, record-breaking albums, selling out huge arenas, dating rock stars, and rocking really chic bangs isn’t enough for her.

And yet, she’s so damn lovable. UGH!

FML.

Ok, just needed to get that off my chest.

So, after what seemed like forever of a wait, The Good Wife returned last night and was pretty much it’s usual kick-ass self. The episode picked up right where we left off last time, (and I mean RIGHT where we left off, same Audra Mae song and all) with Peter dismissing Wendy Scott Carr after her failure of a grand jury trial (sucks to be you Wendy!!!!) and the employees of Lockhart Gardner partying it up back at the offices to celebrate Will’s freedom. Personally, I relished being able to relive some of my favorite moments from the previous episode (Peter telling Wendy his assistant would validate her parking, Will and Diane dancing) even though I did initially think I had tuned into a rerun episode (I’m a space cadet like that). Embarrassing opening confusion aside, I eventually found my way for the remainder of the episode, which was good, because LOTS of great things happened! Let’s recap some of them?

So the central case of the episode saw The Good Wife writers once again plucking a hot topic straight from the present news cycle, and basing it off of events in Syria. (This show is nothing if not consistently current.) Lockhart Gardner represented a group of young American protestors in a suit against software giant, Chumhum, whose decryption software had been used by the Syrian government in an effort to crack down on demonstrators. The firm had previously faced off with Chumhum in an earlier episode, when the company had turned over private information from one of it’s social networking sites to Chinese authorities, resulting in the torture of Chinese dissidents. I know…heavy stuff, right? Does understanding all of this make me qualified to be a lawyer somehow? I feel like it does. Anyway, the return of Chumhum and it’s arrogant founder also meant the return of Rita Wilson’s Viola Walsh as opposing counsel. Love her and her coats. Rita Wilson is always a good addition (consider that a general life principle). As usual there were a lot of twists and turns to the case, with Will once again sharing a tense showdown with Chumhum’s hoodie-wearing CEO (hoodies really offend Will you guys, fyi). Eventually Lockhart Gardner was able to gain the upper hand and force Chumhum into a settlement, after Will was able to demonstrate awareness on Chumhum’s part of it’s software’s usage by Syrian intelligence agencies, through what else, the company’s tech support (obvi! Jk. Not obvi. Kudos Will!). So Lockhart Gardner came out victorious, again, and tech support proved useful for something (sorry, my hostility comes from personal issues with tech support. You know who you are.)

In addition to the case, the episode also dealt with the aftermath of Will’s near-miss with the grand jury. True to her word, Wendy Scott Carr (or was it Dana?!) reported Will’s indiscretions from 15 years ago to the Bar Association, because, clearly she had nothing better to do with her time. (I imagine she went straight from having her ticket validated to the Bar Association, since it all happened on the same night. Seriously, nobody likes a sore loser, Wendy…) So poor Will went from celebrating his victory one minute to being threatened to be disbarred the next by Richard Gilmore. My man just cannot catch a break! In that moment, I found myself cursing Alicia. Let’s face it, she’s kind of the worst! I mean, sure Will stole the money from his client years before they were together, but none of it would have ever gotten out if it wasn’t for his relationship with Alicia and her vengeful husband. Personally, I’d like for there to me more of an acknowledgement on Alicia’s part that she’s the reason Will’s life is in shambles. But that’s just me. Her poor communication skills are finally catching up with her and now everyone has to pay for them. (She couldn’t have just talked with Peter and let things end amicably?? Grrrrr..) Anyway, thank GOD for Diane, and her all-around awesomeness, or things could have been MUCH worse. She managed to garner Will some leniency from the Bar’s disciplinary board by convincing them it was Will who commandeered the addition of the pro bono division of the firm (The Good Wife’s cynical streak strikes again! Oh the irony…). As a result, Will was able to get a deal for a six-month suspension versus undergoing a full disbarment hearing, which I thought was a great outcome, but apparently Diane and Alicia were appalled by (let’s be realistic, people). Personally, I think Will could use the break! Six months is hardly a life-time (it’s a little over an academic semester!). Plus, he needs to be free for when his sisters pay him a visit (can’t wait!!!!). Honestly, I’m ok with all of this. Off-hours Will has always been my favorite, and if this means more shots of him in a leather jacket, cruising down the highway in a convertible, I’m more than on board. In fact, I think I’d take that all the time.

Elsewhere in the episode Eli was being Eli, which means generally amazing. He continued his feud with nemesis/lover Stacy Hall, who officially came on board as the head of his ex-wife Vanessa’s senatorial campaign. There was this hilarious bit with a red sock, and some great bickering between Eli and Vanessa. Basically, Eli Gold reaffirmed his MVP status (alas, no David Lee this time).

Other highlights from the episode:

The return of Judge Abernathy!!!!!: I.E. MY FAVORITE JUDGE EVER! Seriously, Denis O’hare is my all-time favorite guest star on The Good Wife. Hands down. 100%. Yes. Whenever Judge Abernathy is presiding over a case, I know we’re in a for a good show (and some major funnies). Seeing him get emotional over the Occupy Wall Street demonstrators and his reaction to tear gas legitimately made me laugh out loud. To myself. Like an idiot. There may have been clapping too…

Kalinda’s badass investigative skills extend overseas as well: How exactly was Kalinda able to come into contact with Samir, a young Syrian protestor in hiding IN SYRIA? Do I want to know? No. Is it plausible? Yes. It’s Kalinda! No questions required. Just trust and confidence. Why? Because Kalinda. Always. Wins! R.I.P Samir though, that was really sad.

Dana feels the consequences: Ugh! Couldn’t Dana have gotten her ticket validated with Wendy and disappeared?! Seriously her poor attitude is really pissing me off. (I’m still sore at her for trying to use Kalinda…) It did feel good to see her be demoted though. Karma’s a Sharma! Kalinda Sharma that is! Booyaaaaa!

Alicia tries to tell a joke: I don’t know about anyone else but I loved how the CEO of Chumhum just flat out dismissed Alicia’s attempt at humor. Alicia’s not funny, you guys.

Judge Abernathy: I just wanted to reiterate how much I love him. In case I didn’t make it clear a few points ago. Favorite. Ever.

Will and his bat: Just because.

Chris Cornell recently covered Whitney’s “I Will Always Love You” and I literally have goosebumps, it’s that good. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard a male version of this song before, but it’s like an entirely different track altogether! So poignant, so soulful, so haunting. The perfect tribute to Whitney. I love when artists are able to re-envision a fellow artist’s work like this. This is the kind of stuff that gets me feeling all warm and fuzzy…I wish I could have witnessed it live.

It’s Chandler you guys!

I am so stoked about this piece of casting news! According to EW.com Matthew Perry has just landed a recurring role on The Good Wife as an “ultra-charming” (!!!!) attorney “from Chicago named Mike who’s heading up a blue-ribbon panel in charge of investigating a police shooting.” Apparently his character will interact with Alicia, who will be skeptical of his ulterior motives. (Classic Alicia.)

This is just an all around great call by The Good Wife producers. I have no doubt that Chandler Matthew Perry will fit in seamlessly (he did a great job during his brief stint on The West Wing!)
